The Joy of Waiting!? What is that?!
Waiting isn’t my thing. I want IT NOW. Not as bad as Veruca Salt in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but you get my drift.
I’ve been thinking about this and what it means to wait. I’ve found that I’ve managed to create lots of distractions in my life – think my iphone and all of the awesome apps I have- and avoid the feeling of waiting often.
When it comes to bigger life things sometimes it’s harder to distract ourselves. Maybe it’s to meet someone, maybe it’s to grow your family, perhaps it’s about career, or purchasing your dream home- whatever it is we are often forced to wait and no amount of words with friends or Instagram scrolling is going to change that.
Well one thing I love is to find meaningful stuff to do in the waiting…here are my top three.
Journal about it. What do you desire? Why? What will it look like? How will you feel? This can make the waiting feel more like the time for planting the seeds then the time that you just have to sit in an uncomfortable chair reading old germy magazines (think the doctor’s office here.
I love reading and certain times I do way more reading than others. But there’s nothing quite like a really good inspirational book to set my dreams on fire for me a couple of favorite are Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and Carry On Warrior by Glennon Melton- but there are so many good ones! Grab a favorite and I’d love to hear yours!
< h3> Music
Oh music always gets me and helps me live through the moment and feel it deeper. I’m loving Pandora as usual and am particularly into Ingrid Michaelson and Mat Kearney lately. Some favorites are Closer to Love and Wonderful Unknown.
These are great ways to stay occupied while we wait- because sometimes we just have to wait. I think there is something about living in that in between so don’t distract yourself too much if you can help it and be present in the waiting, I’m giving it a try, I will let you know how it goes!
