Be patient. Generally when someone says this to me it angers me, like when someone says “calm down” it generally has the opposite effect on me. I start to think of all the reasons why I cannot, why there is no time for patience. I’m going to ask for three things.
Be patient with me.
Me. Yes but more importantly anyone you find yourself in relationship with. Give the benefit of the doubt, expect the best, and be okay with who they are. I’m not saying let people walk all over you but just know that a lot of us are lost, finding our way, and looking for people to care for us. Right?
Be patient with yourself.
This is often the hardest one for us. Because life happens and often quickly. We set a goal and we miss it, we want something so badly and we don’t get it and we get impatient. We blame ourselves, berate ourselves, and tell ourselves we just aren’t worth it.
NO. FREAKING. WAY. We all need to do STOP. To be patient and to know that the best things often take the longest.
Be patient with everyone else too.
As you can probably tell I’m really feeling an overall need for patience in my heart, my home, my community, our world. Patience isn’t easy for me, it’s not my natural state, however, I think it’s a virtue for which I must work tirelessly. Heck, I must be patient in the pursuit of patience.
The word itself is inspiring to me, it’s not letting go, backing down, or giving up, it’s not more aggressive. It is calculated and thoughtful, it is intentional and meaningful and I will continue to seek patience.
Where in your life can you be more patient? What moments of patience can you celebrate already?
Would love to hear from you!
