This is my first blogging series, which I honestly cannot believe! I know little about what that means. So bear with me as it may not be exactly what you’re used to, if you are a seasoned blogger. Let’s say I’m putting my own spin on it. I decided my first blogging series should be about finding joy in the everyday.
For the next month each week I will bring you a post about this very topic, because heck a whole part of this whole journey for me is being able to share from my own struggles and experience. I’m borderline ashamed (only borderline because I recognize shame as a terrible non-effective way of living in the world…)to admit that I struggle more than I’d like to find joy in the day to day.
Where is it?
As an outsider looking in, (depending on how closely you can see) you may be thinking, Liz that’s totally ridiculous you HAVE so much joy around you. Just because it’s there, doesn’t mean you see it.
Are you with me? You ever go looking for something in your house…and you look and you look and you look and then all of the sudden you go back to the very place you swear you put the thing you’re looking for and it’s THERE!!!!! I always swear that somebody moved it and put it back (sometimes I even accuse people of this- I know, I know, but I do.)
Joy is like that if we get super stressed out that we cannot find it and we look and look thinking oh shit, I spent my whole life planning and hoping for right now… I just knew it would all be awesome. WHERE THE HELL IS THE JOY?!?!!
I’m finding it!
Over the next few weeks, I am going to be posting with a different outlook on this very idea. I’m looking in the places I thought it would be and YES it’s there. Just this morning I started this blog post. The boys were playing nicely and quietly for 3 WHOLE MINUTES and I THOUGHT YESSSS THIS IS JOY. Then Vincent said, “Mom, will you play with us?” And I thought to myself THIS TOOO. THIS TOO IS JOY. Holy moly. What you focus on grows?! It’s real. At least it seemed it this morning.
Did you find it?
Where have you found joy lately? Did you find it right where you thought it would be or was it somewhere unexpected? (more on that later!) I’ve found it in some expected and unexpected places and will be sharing soon.
I would love to hear from you in the comments!
Here’s to lots of joy, until next time!
