Ha. That title makes me laugh. Basically for me Saturdays become a day when all of my expectations, which are already ridiculously high, are on steroids. I must be productive, relaxed, spend time with my family, spend time alone, do something creative, work out, eat healthy, connect with Chris, clean, read…HOLY CRAP expectation overload.
You with me, here? I hope not. I have a sneaky suspicion I’m not alone, please tell me I’m not….
I tried really hard. Really hard to be okay with whatever happened. Really hard to have a plan- a rough outline- of things that we WANTED to do. I was totally inspired by this awesome post by this amazing blogger, Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy.
I loved this post, I was super glad I found it on a Friday afternoon, even though it was from 3 years ago!!!! I’m sometimes a little behind the average cat ;). My two favorite tips were the anchor events concept and minimizing chores. Also,I think I need to go grab this book, What Successful People Do On The Weekends by Lauren Vanderkam.
My Own Saturday Spin
I love the internet, I love bloggers, and I love all of the amazingly supportive women in my life. All of these things help guide me, help me make decisions, and give me great guides to follow. The thing is they’re just that guides. Sometimes I get too caught up in following everyone else’s lists of must dos and forget to make them my own.
This Saturday I didn’t do that. Which made me really proud. ( I understand the day isn’t over yet…) I made it work for me and for my family. I took a few hours to work while John napped and Vincent and Chris did who knows what (but I’m sure it was a blast-they have a lot of fun together those two birds.)
The one chore we did do was the grocery shopping. Always necessary, not my favorite. We all went together after story time (one of our anchor events) and the boys stayed in the car while I shopped. That’s not what would be everyone’s preference but it worked for us!
How do you make your Saturdays work for you? What was your Saturday highlight? What makes Saturdays hard or easy for you? Would love to hear and here’s to us enjoying the days as they come!
