Taking care of you sounds easy enough, right? There are lots of things to do everyday in the life of a mom and the whole mom guilt thing as well as a crazy ass schedule can make for some insanely difficult times in making time for YOU!
Teach through example
If I’m completely honest with you… I will say this I love to take care of myself. Sometimes I do so more adequately than others. Like the days I choose to go for a 3 mile run rather than eat an order of buffalo wings and drink a glass
bottle of wine. I do feel like I require more self care than the average bear. And therefore I will give myself more self care. Because it is a good thing and I want my kids to know that being good to yourself, in a healthy and productive way, is good. It’s not selfish. It’s self love, they are VERY DIFFERENT.
Refresh and recharge
At the end of the long day we need rest. Our bodies require food, oxygen, and water. There are different levels of health that we acquire through the way that we treat ourselves but at the end of the day we actually NEED to care for ourselves. Eating well and regularly, exercising, resting, having outlets for frustration, and people to turn to. All of it.
Joy spreads (so does misery)
Look at these cute guys, my friend Amanda took this fab picture! I am pretty sure that Vincent is drooling on Chris’ head, really spreading the JOY. I feel like this picture is completely what I’m talking about here. When I’m happy the people I’m around can feel it. When I’m not, well watch the hell out. Seriously though. Taking care of myself makes me happy. And then I can spread that joy with those I love.
Life is busy and I get exhausted. A LOT. If I don’t find time to take care of me it’s not good. It’s so much harder to recover after you’ve let yourself go way too long without doing things that bring you joy and refresh you. So I try to remind myself to keep up with things I love even when I’m super busy actually it’s more important then.
