This weekend we traveled to Rhode Island to celebrate my oldest sister’s 50th birthday! Her husband threw an awesome surprise party for her on Friday evening. We made a quick whirlwind trip Thursday evening to Saturday afternoon. For the most part the boys were total troopers, despite John getting a high fever upon our return home and being down for the count with a virus since.
We were really happy to see everyone and the nice thing was it wasn’t too much pressure because we will be back soon for Thanksgiving! So that’s always nice. I felt like I had some good quality time with my mom and my kids adore their Nama (that’s what Vincent calls her.) I was also very happy to be able to celebrate my sister! So all in all I’ll call this trip home a success.
Friday night was all about the party. And the location was adorable. If you live in RI you need to go to Blackies Bull Dog Tavern! The food was amazing (I am a sucker for fried pickles and that sauce…..yum.) Plus the upstairs room was so cute, well styled, and intimate (a word my sister actually used to describe what she would want from a birthday party!) So good job to her husband!!!!
For those of you who don’t know this about me I’m from a huge family. I’m the youngest of 8! My sister Maureen, whom we were celebrating, was in college when I was born. This makes for a fun and nutty at times family dynamic. I am so grateful for it though, since I feel as though I’ve been given so many opportunities to learn through watching the successes and trials of my siblings.
All in all it was a great visit home and I’m so glad we were able to make the trip even if it was quick! I’m just focusing on getting back into the swing of things. This week is all about preparing for the upcoming holidays (how is time moving so fast) and dreaming about what we hope for (not presents but how we want our holidays to feel and look!) More on this very soon, promise.
