A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to create a vision board. The workshop I went to was just amazing! And while I really don’t fancy myself the artistic type, I felt a real draw to attending this particular event. I just felt like I needed some time set aside to be allowed to dream or not. To be present or not. But to just let stuff flow. Within a few moments of being there we went around the room, which was filled with amazing women, and introduced ourselves, our businesses, and a little of why were there.
I knew that I was totally in the right spot. The entire process for me was one of relaxation and self-discovery. I was really proud of my vision board when I was done. For those of you who have never done this the process it is a little different than it may seem on the surface. While it may be cool to take time and make a visual to do list, or goal setting. That is not what this is. A vision board is about just looking around and seeing what speaks to you, it may not make sense, it may not be clear then but after you’ve really just allowed yourself to be present and pay attention to what it is that’s speaking to you-then your vision is able to come out and be put on the board.
I love my vision board. I look at it and am so happy with it. I think that positive feeling I have when looking at my vision board-isn’t because somehow in that time period, I miraculously became an artist, no. I think it’s because I trusted myself and I allowed myself to go with something, this is not necessarily natural for me. Perhaps you know what I mean.
I find that we live in a world where we put a lot of stock in what other people say. We believe in needing to find the experts in our world and in some ways I can totally understand that. I think it makes good sense, in certain situations. Believe me, I am not advocating to redoing your own plumbing- I would definitely leave that to an expert. That could be a major mess, both literally and figuratively. I think what I’m realizing for myself is that sometimes we are the experts, even when we feel insecure or unsure- often we know a lot more than we think we do. It’s the trusting and allow myself to truly be present that is hardest for me.
I love my vision board because that’s what I did, I stopped myself from thinking there was a right way and then it came out exactly how it was to be. And I love it. Maybe you can relate. If nothing comes to you right away I challenge you to think about some area of your life where you can trust yourself more….And give it a shot 🙂
